ABOUT
I was born into an eclectic lifestyle which paved the way for my creativity and passion for life and travel. Born in Germany and adopted by new parents who were in the army, I spent my childhood in different countries, houses, schools, with changing friends, climates and colours.
My love for jewellery came from my mother’s beautiful jewellery collection and time spent in Singapore and India exploring the colourful and bustling markets.
After losing my parents and my brother, surviving cancer twice and going through a very difficult divorce, I found myself back in London with a lot of healing to do. My three boys were all off doing their own thing and I decided to buy a year ticket to India and see where that would take me. I bought a rucksack and off I went.
I remember arriving in Rishikesh and literally jumping for joy on the bridge crossing the Ganga, The smells, colours and bustle made me feel as if I had come home, it all reminded me so much of Singapore, my childhood, my parents, my brother and freedom.
I studied yoga, travelled around and spent time exploring and healing; eventually settling in Jaipur, surrounded by other creatives where I learned so much about myself. I learned what my passions are and decided to try my hand at designing jewellery with a silversmith.
I have the most amazing Butler and Wilson collection from the 80s and have always loved heavy, statement pieces. I wanted to create similar pieces and design in silver as so many people react to others metals. This became my challenge and Jellyfishandsilver was born…
About us
The Jellyfish Story
Since being stung by a man-of-war jellyfish, I have attracted jellyfish all over the world and wanted to learn what this meant. I found the following “The jellyfish symbolise movement, instinct, flow, survival ,simplicity and movement. It is a floating spirit that illuminates its surroundings. It suggests that we should let life guide us and not resist, go with the flow and be intuitive.”As a twice survivor of breast cancer this struck a chord with me and the name was born!! My mother had a saying “always keep a flexible posture” well the jellyfish can certainly do this!!My passion for jewellery began with two short courses and studying Anglo Saxon jewellery - I loved the sense of strength from the jewellery, the amulets, the stones, the statement. I developed my talent in Jaipur with a silversmith who helped me bring my designs to life. I started to use sea glass to make rings. I learnt about stones, which were strong enough for rings, what healing properties they have. I love the sea, pearls, silver, raw stones, the light on the sea and this inspired me to create my collection. Each piece is unique and beautifully crafted by these talented artisans with the best energy. My packaging is crafted in India with recycled shredded cloth and even my stamp is made there by local artisans.I am proud of my jewellery and I wear it as an amulet, as a symbol for standing strong and reinventing myself and I hope you can do the same.
